Gerald Nailor Serigraph

Item Details

An original serigraph, with in plate signature, by well listed Navajo painter Gerald A. (or Lloyde) Nailor (1917-1952), “In 1937, Nailor shared a studio in Santa Fe with Allan Houser. His paintings were exhibited in the home of Mrs. Hall Adams from 1943 to 1952. At the time of his death, he was living with his family at Picuris Pueblo, NM. Tragically, Nailor was only 35 years old when [he] died from injuries received in an attempt to help a woman whose husband was brutally beating her.” (Snodgrass, 1968.) Nailor’s paintings are among the more rare of the Dorothy Dunn students’ works, because of his early death. He was an extraordinary artist whose work was of the finest detail. This is a beautiful serigraph featuring a lovely image of a Quail. The image was printed at Tewa Enterprises printing firm, the firm Nailor operated with Harrison Begay. The print is dated ’51 at the bottom right hand corner, and is presented in a beautiful wooden frame with a single white mat to edge.

Condition

This piece is in great condition aside from a bend in the mat at the upper right hand corner. The mat would be very easily replaced.
