Original Rafal Olbinsky Acrylic on Canvas for Cincinnati Opera
Item Details
An original acrylic on canvas painting signed to the lower right-hand corner by well listed Polish Painter Rafal Olbinski (1943 – ). This painting is extremely exemplary of the artist’s much sought after illustrational paintings, in this case advertising the Cincinnati Opera’s production of ‘Samson and Dalila.’ To the verso, the painting retains an entry form presumably from either the artist himself or the Opera, or perhaps a different exhibition entirely. The painting depicts an intensely visceral depiction of a half naked man, his long brown hair blowing in the wind, the face of a woman appearing therein as if she were heavy on his mind, practically flowing through him. The background, most intense with a sharp red around his waist, fades into wild beige colored sky. At the top is the text that names the Opera, and where it will be presented. Olbinsky has worked in the United States since emigrating from Poland in the early 1980s, as a prolific magazine illustrator and painter. The artist has a poetic absurdity proliferated with the joyous humor of human folly that’s intensely comparable to that of Magritte. This captivating painting is presented in a nice gilded wooden frame with a canvas wrapped inset at inner edge.
