Antique Chinese Teak Wall Plaque

Item Details

A large wooden wall plaque from China, circa late 19th century. This antique piece portrays the Demigod of the Wind, created out of rosewood and placed in relief against a dark teak flat panel. Gold leaf has been applied to areas of flesh and to represent the demigod’s breath. Among the flowing folds of his robe are wonderfully carved leaves. He holds a walking stick behind him. The black lacquered frame has ornate silver mounts to corners and to each of the four sides.

Condition

Silver mounts are tarnished. There are a few small nicks to rosewood and to surface of teak panel, and a larger chip along right corner edge of frame.
