Carved Soapstone Chinese Fisherman Catching Koi Sculpture

Item Details

A carved soapstone Chinese fisherman catching koi sculpture, petite in size. The sculpture is two parts connected by wood pegs, drilled and carved from the soft gradient red and yellow stone. The top section depicts an elderly bearded fisherman, grin on his face from his catches, arched backwards holding his pole with a large koi attached to the other end flying in the air. The second section is a deep red depicting the ground ledge and water. Both pieces are marked ‘China’ on the reverse.

Condition

- the pieces have scuffs (soapstone is easy to scratch) and the connectors are not perfectly sturdy.
