Three Rookwood Advertising Ash Receivers in Soft Brown, 1944

A group of three Rookwook ash receivers in soft brown ‘wine madder’ high gloss glaze, each stating ‘For Meritous Service, Fourth War Loan, February 1944’, decorated with an eagle and shield at the front. The Rookwood flame emblem, shape #6438 and the date XLIV are imprinted to the bottom of each. The war loans or bond sales were employed to finance World War II in the early 1940s. The Fourth War Loan Drive began January 18, 1944, and ended February 15, 1944. The initial goal was $14 billion, and the drive was targeted towards farmers and women. Final sales were $16.7 billion (107% of quota) and nearly 70 million separate bonds sold.
