Born in Italy in 1875, Leonetto Cappiello showed an interest and talent in art from an early age. He began his career as a caricaturist, but soon devoted himself to advertising and poster design. In 1898 he moved to Paris, where is innovative, bold designs propelled him to an extremely successful career, and earned him the designation as “the father of the modern poster”.
