Late Victorian Knockdown Walnut Armoire

Item Details

This Late Victorian armoire is a masterwork of mixed textures and period motifs. Crafted from walnut with rich burl veneer accents on the drawer front and door panels, the piece is defined by its architectural crown and triple-door configuration. The outer doors are inset with original beveled mirrors, while the central door features a deeply carved foliate relief. Unique ‘fish-scale’ or scalloped carvings adorn the arched corner panels of the mirror frames. The base contains a single, full-width drawer with original cast-brass batwing pulls. True to the functional needs of the late 19th century, this unit is designed with a ‘knock-down’ frame. While it remains structurally sound, the mirrors exhibit significant ‘honest wear’ in the form of desilvering, which adds a desirable antique patina for many collectors.
