Chinese Lacquered Two-Panel Screen with Inset Mother-of-Pearl Bird Motifs

Item Details

This two-panel Chinese Export floor screen features an intricate combination of red and black lacquer work adorned with traditional motifs. Each panel contains a large, black-ground oval medallion featuring high-relief inlays of carved bone and iridescent mother-of-pearl depicting birds perched among blossoming branches. The surrounding red frame is hand-painted with plum blossoms, while the lower rectangular registers depict koi fish in a pond. The screen is structurally reinforced with decorative engraved brass corner mounts and moves on original small metal casters.
