This Asian storage chest is a quintessential example of 20th-century ‘blanket chest’ design, likely originating from the major furniture manufacturing centers of Hong Kong or Shanghai. Constructed from solid wood, the exterior is finished in a deep reddish-brown lacquer that provides a striking contrast to the extensive polished brass hardware. The design features traditional ‘campaign’ elements, including reinforced brass corner mounts, horizontal straps, and a prominent circular latch plate. The sides are equipped with recessed brass bail handles for ease of transport.
