American Empire Flame Mahogany Four-Drawer Chest, 19th Century
Item Details
This mid-19th-century American Empire chest of drawers is constructed with striking flame mahogany veneers arranged in book-matched patterns across the drawer fronts. The piece follows a classic architectural silhouette of the 1830s, featuring a prominent overhanging ‘cushion’ top drawer above three graduated lower drawers flanked by flat stiles. The unit is supported by substantial scroll-form ogee feet. While the primary mahogany veneers retain a rich color, the chest shows extensive evidence of its age and history, including hand-cut dovetail construction.
