This 19th-century Eastlake movement bedstead is a refined example of American Victorian furniture design. The ensemble includes a commanding headboard, a matching footboard, and two wooden side rails. Crafted primarily from walnut, the piece is characterized by the high-contrast use of book-matched burl walnut veneers within recessed panels. The headboard’s crown is defined by an architectural arched pediment with a delicate pierced gallery and incised linear and floral carvings, a hallmark of the Eastlake style’s rejection of heavy Rococo curves in favor of geometric integrity. The footboard mirrors these decorative motifs, while the sturdy vertical posts are topped with stylized finials.
