American Eastlake Walnut Marble Top Dresser 1875-1885

Item Details

This late 19th-century American dresser is a definitive example of the Eastlake style, featuring the characteristic rectilinear silhouette and architectural ornamentation of the era. Crafted from walnut with figured veneers, the chest is surmounted by a thick rouge marble top with deep earthy-red and grey veining. The configuration includes two short glove drawers and two long drawers, all utilizing the historically significant Knapp ‘scallop and peg’ joinery. The drawers are fitted with original cast brass pulls featuring embossed medallions. The accompanying landscape mirror is heavily detailed with a fan-style carved pediment and side supports with incised floral motifs. Resting on original wood casters, this set remains an authentic representation of Victorian aesthetic movement furniture.
