Late Victorian Oak Corner Cabinet

Item Details

This Late Victorian Oak Revival Corner Curio Cabinet is a product of the early 20th-century American furniture industry, likely produced during the late Victorian ‘Oak Revival’ era. The cabinet features a distinctive bow-front central door with curved glass, providing a wide viewing angle for displayed objects. The primary material is oak, exhibiting the coarse and open grain characteristic of the species. Decorative elements include a scalloped top gallery and a serpentine lower apron, both accented with shallow incised floral and starburst carvings. The piece is elevated on robustly carved ‘hairy-paw’ feet, an ornamental detail derived from earlier 18th-century Chippendale motifs. The interior contains three fixed wood shelves. The use of plywood for the back panels indicates a manufacturing date in the first quarter of the 20th century. This functional corner piece combines traditional revival aesthetics with the mass-production techniques of the period.
