Regency Style Mahogany Open Armchair, 20th Century

Item Details

This mahogany open armchair is a 20th-century interpretation of the English Regency style. The backrest is defined by a slightly curved tablet top rail positioned above a decorative splat composed of three fluted, fan-shaped vertical members. The sweeping arms follow a graceful ‘sabre’ curve, resting upon classical fluted urn-form supports that transition into square blocks. The chair is elevated on turned and tapered front legs and out-swept rear legs. The seat is fully upholstered in a high-quality tapestry textile featuring a large-scale symmetrical floral and pomegranate motif in shades of madder red, sage green, and ochre on a neutral ground. While the frame shows authentic signs of age-appropriate wear to the mahogany finish, the chair remains structurally sound and serves as a refined example of neoclassical revival seating.
