Federal Style Mahogany and Bird's-Eye Maple Inlay Chest of Drawers, 19th Century

Item Details

This 19th-century American bureau is an example of Federal style cabinetry with transitional Empire influences. The chest is configured with two small upper drawers featuring vibrant birds-eye maple veneer panels, positioned above three graduated full-width drawers faced in figured mahogany. The case is flanked by integrated fluted pilasters and elevated on four elegant turned and tapered legs. The drawers are fitted with turned wooden knobs, each accented by a central bone or ivory inlay, and feature hand-cut dovetail joinery. The interior of the second drawer is organized by three integrated wooden dividers. Exhibiting a rich, dark patina and authentic hand-tooling throughout, this bureau serves as a significant representative of the American Federal period.
