L. Hitchcock Stenciled Windsor-Style Side Chair, Mid to Late 20th Century
Item Details
This classic side chair by the Hitchcock Chair Company is a 20th-century revival of the iconic designs of Lambert Hitchcock. Constructed from solid hardwood with a dark mahogany finish, the chair features a wide tablet top rail embellished with a vibrant, hand-applied gilt floral stencil depicting two golden blossoms flanked by autumnal leaves. The backrest is composed of seven slender spindles set into a deeply shaped saddle seat, providing both historical accuracy and ergonomic comfort. The chair is elevated on four ring-turned legs joined by a reinforced H-stretcher. Authenticated by the signature ‘Hitchcocks-ville’ gold stencil on the rear of the seat, this piece remains a quintessential example of traditional Connecticut cabinetmaking.
