American Renaissance Revival Walnut "Wishbone" Commode, Mid to Late 19th Century

Item Details

This mid-to-late 19th-century American commode is a quintessential example of Victorian walnut bedroom furniture. Crafted during the ‘Golden Age’ of American cabinetry, the piece is distinguished by its twin ‘wishbone’ mirror supports, which curve elegantly from the shaped backsplash. The three drawers are adorned with hand-carved fruit-and-leaf pulls, a premium decorative detail typical of the Renaissance Revival period. The drawers feature high-quality hand-cut dovetails and matched burl walnut veneers that provide a rich, multi-tonal grain. While the original mirror is no longer present, the chest retains its architectural yoke and sturdy silhouette, making it an excellent candidate for use as a hallway console or a character-rich storage piece.
