Victorian Style Marble-Top Lyre Base Parlor Table, Mid-20th Century
Item Details
This Victorian-style parlor table features a striking Portoro marble top characterized by its deep black ground and organic gold and white veining. The rectangular marble is set within a molded hardwood frame, supported by a highly decorative trestle base. The dual pedestal supports are carved in a stylized lyre form, featuring deep relief work including C-scrolls, foliate borders, and a prominent central palmette or fan motif. A turned, baluster-style stretcher joins the two pedestals for structural reinforcement. The table rests on scrolled bracket feet that continue the ornate carving of the upper supports. Combining heavy architectural elements with the luxury of natural stone, this piece is an example of mid-20th-century American furniture designed to evoke the opulence of the late 19th-century Renaissance Revival.
