American Federal Painted Pine Mule Chest, Early 19th Century
Item Details
This American Federal pine blanket chest features a traditional lift-top design over two functional lower drawers. Constructed from solid pine with a reddish-brown wash, the piece displays characteristic early 19th-century joinery, including a hand-planed backboard and a lidded interior till box. The chest is supported by a decorative scalloped apron transitioning into integral bracket feet. Each drawer and the top lid are fitted with brass escutcheons and pressed brass bail handles. The interior reveals original cotter pin hinges and natural wood oxidation consistent with age.
