American Centennial Chippendale Style Mahogany Bonnet-Top Highboy
Item Details
This impressive American Centennial chest-on-chest is a high-quality late 19th-century homage to the Philadelphia Chippendale era. The upper section features a graceful bonnet top with a broken-arch pediment and three spiral-turned finials, over a configuration of five small and four long drawers. The lower section provides additional storage with a long drawer over three smaller drawers. Distinctive hand-carved fan/shell motifs decorate the central drawers of both the upper and lower cases. The piece is further elevated by fluted pilasters on the upper case and cabriole legs with shell-carved knees that terminate in well-defined ball-and-claw feet. Constructed of solid mahogany with traditional brass batwing hardware, the cabinet exemplifies the bench-made craftsmanship of the Colonial Revival period.
