Pair of Victorian Revival Marble-Top Side Tables, Mid-20th Century

Item Details

This pair of side tables represents the Victorian Revival style, a popular mid-20th-century trend that emulated the ornate designs of the late 19th century. Each table features an oval white marble top with gray veining and a classically carved ogee edge. The marble rests upon a wooden frame and a central quadruped pedestal base. The legs are characterized by bold, scrolled cutouts and are joined at a central pillar featuring decorative turned finials at the top and bottom. The stained wood finish provides a traditional contrast to the cool marble. While capturing the silhouette of period Victorian furniture, the construction methods, including the use of modern fasteners visible on the underside, identify these as late-production pieces intended for the residential market.
