Spanish Colonial Revival Carved Walnut Lyre-Base Bench, Early to Mid-20th C.
Item Details
This solid walnut bench is an excellent example of Spanish Colonial Revival furniture from the early-to-mid 20th century. The piece is characterized by its architectural lyre-base trestle supports, which are intricately carved with scrolling foliate motifs. A central undulating stretcher connects the two bases, featuring a deep-relief carved rosette medallion at its apex. The seat is a substantial rectangular plank with beveled edges, displaying the tight, dense grain pattern characteristic of old-growth walnut. While the structural joinery—including traditional wooden pegs—remains secure, the bench exhibits a ‘lived-in’ patina with notable finish wear and surface abrasions consistent with its age and use as a utilitarian entryway or window seat.
