2'10 x 4'5 Hand-Knotted Afghan Taimani Accent Rug

Item Details

This hand-knotted Afghan rug is a distinctive product of the Taimani tribe, a nomadic group within the Chahar Aimaq confederacy of Western Afghanistan. Unlike the flatter Baluch rugs of the lowlands, this Taimani piece features a heavy, resilient pile of hand-spun wool, specifically adapted for the cold mountainous climate of Ghor Province. The design centers on two bold, stepped medallions rendered in chocolate brown and ochre, set against a vibrant madder-red field. The serrated latch-hook borders of the medallions and the geometric rosettes in the navy-blue border are quintessential tribal markers. Known for their ‘primitive’ yet graphic appeal, Taimani rugs like this one are prized for their saturated natural dyes and the raw, expressive quality of their geometric motifs.
