2'8 x 11'5 Hand-Knotted Turkish Anatolian Oushak Carpet Runner

Item Details

This hand-knotted Turkish Anatolian wool runner exhibits the vibrant, primitive charm of mid-century village weaving. The elongated field is uniquely divided into three horizontal registers of ivory, salmon, and red, each populated with bold geometric tribal symbols. These motifs, common in Anatolian folk art, represent traditional protections for the home. The runner is woven entirely of wool, featuring hand-spun pile on a wool foundation, which contributes to its soft, pliable handle. While it demonstrates significant honest wear and oxidation across the pile—attributes often sought by designers for a ‘distressed’ or ‘found’ aesthetic—the integrity of the weave remains intact. The saturated natural-looking dyes and the asymmetrical execution of the borders highlight the weaver’s individual hand.
