G. Steele English Regency Painted Dial Mahogany Longcase Clock, 19th Century

Item Details

This antique tall case clock features a mahogany case with a prominent swan-neck pediment and a central carved foliate finial. The hood is supported by turned columns flanking an arched glass door that protects a hand-painted iron dial. Signed by maker C. _teele of Chester-le-St, the dial displays a depiction of The Last Supper in the lunette and pastoral landscapes in the spandrels, alongside a subsidiary seconds dial and a date aperture. The waist of the clock includes turned quarter-columns and a locking door, while the base is decorated with an octagonal molded panel and supported by a scalloped apron on bracket feet. The clock retains its pendulum and two weights, exhibiting a characteristic silhouette of early 19th century British horology.
