Samuel Lawson "Kighley" English Regency Oak and Walnut Longcase Clock, 18th C.
Item Details
This George III oak longcase clock, crafted by the notable Yorkshire maker Samuel Lawson of Keighley, dates to the mid-to-late 18th century. The case is constructed of oak and accented with mahogany crossbanding, featuring a hood with a swan-neck pediment and turned columns flanking an arched glazed door. The 12-inch brass dial is finely engraved with the maker’s name and locale in the lunette, further decorated with cast brass cherub spandrels and a matted center containing a date aperture. The 30-hour movement is weight-driven and strikes on a bell, typical of the ‘cottage’ clocks produced for the regional Yorkshire market. Though showing signs of historic use and requiring minor structural attention to the base, the clock remains a robust example of provincial English horology.
