Artist Statement from Artist’s Website

’TOILETPAPER
Art Direction and Creative process.

TP is a photography-based magazine founded by Pierpaolo Ferrai (Photographer) and Maurizio Cattelan (Artist), with no written articles or advertising. The magazine began its life as a complete un-commercial, unscripted concept where naughtiness, irony, humor, shock value and plenty of potty mouth are not just accepted but willfully cultivated. What has been hidden in normality is exposed, it brings surprise and when surprise mixes with the absurd it usually results humor, grotesque or disturbing. today Toiletpaper is a multiform project, which evolves continuously: we like to see it as a label that can be applied to a variety of objects and situations. We are trying to design an aesthetic criterion to be applied either for a party, a girl friend or a design object.’
