10'1 x 11'6 Hand-Knotted Persian Malayer Room-Sized Rug

Item Details

This antique Persian Malayer carpet features a hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, originating from the Hamadan province of Northwest Iran. The design showcases an intricate, all-over repeating pattern of stylized floral lozenges and ‘Boteh’ motifs in shades of terracotta red, gold, and soft blue over a deep madder field. A wide, navy blue primary border with a classical Herati vine-and-leaf design provides a strong architectural frame. While the carpet exhibits substantial historical character and an authentic aged patina, it shows extensive wear with large areas of exposed foundation and compromised edges, typical of a heavily used 19th-century utilitarian textile.
