Victorian Carved Walnut Rocking Chair, Late 19th Century
Item Details
This Victorian rocking chair features a carved walnut frame with a distinctive high-back medallion silhouette and a trilobed top rail. The stiles are topped with turned finials and lead down to padded wings and recessed armrests supported by intricately carved and turned posts. The seat is upholstered in a dark red floral-patterned velvet with a scalloped front edge, matching the padded back and armrests. The chair sits on two steam-bent wooden rockers secured to the four legs. The construction displays a mix of machine-turned components and hand-finished foliate carvings typical of the American Renaissance Revival period.
