Pair of Victorian Louis XV Revival Walnut Gentleman's and Lady's Chairs
Item Details
This pair of Victorian armchairs is executed in the Rococo Revival style, drawing heavily from 18th-century Louis XV design. Crafted from solid walnut, the set consists of a larger ‘Gentleman’s’ chair and a slightly smaller ‘Lady’s’ chair. Both pieces feature high, oval-shaped ‘balloon’ backs framed by finger-molded wood and topped with carved foliate crests. The serpentine seat rails and graceful cabriole legs are characteristic of the mid-to-late 19th century. The chairs have been reupholstered in a contemporary cream-colored fabric accented by a delicate red micro-dot pattern. The Lady’s chair retains its period-correct casters on the front legs. This set exemplifies the Victorian era’s romanticization of French court styles, providing an elegant silhouette and functional comfort.
