French Provincial Style Wingback Bergère, Mid to Late 20th Century
Item Details
This wingback armchair is an American mid-to-late 20th-century interpretation of the classic French Louis XV Bergère à Oreilles. The chair is constructed from a carved light hardwood, featuring a rhythmic scalloped crest rail and elegantly curved wings designed for comfort and drafts protection. The frame is accented with refined foliate carvings on the knees of the cabriole legs, which terminate in traditional scroll feet. It is upholstered in a monochromatic rose-pink damask with a repeating botanical motif, including padded armrests and a thick, loose seat cushion. The chair represents the French Provincial Revival style that was a hallmark of premium American suburban interior design during the late 20th century.
