A folio-sized architectural work comprising a collection of the ‘most beautiful monuments of Ancient Rome.’ Jean Barbault, a contemporary and rival of Piranesi, designed the copper-plate engravings included in this work. The title page features a vignette of ruins and putti, and the work is dedicated to Jean François Joseph de Rochechouart. This volume was a seminal text for the Neoclassical movement, providing detailed visual records of the Pantheon, the Colosseum, and various Roman antiquities.

- tight binding; cracked hinges with loosening boards; red rot, peeling, cracking, bowing, chips, discoloration, and wear to boards and backstrip; bumped spine and corners; page toning, foxing, and some bookworm damage; graphite markings to front free endpaper; bookplate to front pastedown.
