Pair of Japanese Tansu-Style Chests with Iron Hardware, 20th Century

Item Details

This pair of Japanese Tansu-style storage chests features a rich, dark-stained wood finish accented by a comprehensive suite of traditional forged iron hardware. Each chest is crowned with an elegant overhanging top with raised ends, situated above a row of three small drawers. The lower section consists of a large drop-front compartment secured by decorative iron butterfly hinges and a prominent central lock plate. The facades are further embellished with hand-applied iron studs and traditional bail handles. These chests blend functional storage with the rustic ‘Mingei’ aesthetic, making them ideal as side tables or accent pieces in contemporary or traditional Asian-inspired interiors.
