Chinese Carved Two-Drawer Hua'an Painting or Console Table, Mid to Late 19th C.
Item Details
This 19th-century Northern Chinese painting table exhibits the elegant, elongated proportions typical of late Qing Dynasty scholarly furniture. Constructed from solid elm and finished with a traditional dark oxblood pigment stain, the table features two small end-drawers set into a deep, elaborately carved frieze. The openwork apron is decorated with scrolling foliate motifs and circular medallions, supported by tall square legs accented with delicately carved scroll spandrels. The table retains its characteristic ‘dry’ finish and deep surface patina, with hand-cut joinery visible in the drawer construction—a hallmark of authentic period craftsmanship.
