This hand-knotted wool rug is a Turkish-made homage to the celebrated Art Deco designs of Walter Nichols. The rug features the hallmark asymmetrical composition of the period, with flowering plum or cherry branches ‘breaking’ across the borders into a spacious salmon-pink field. Rendered in a soft palette of ivory, sage green, and charcoal, the design utilizes the negative space typical of 1920s Chinese exports. Unlike the heavy, thick-piled originals, this Turkish revival example has been sheared to a very low profile and chemically washed to achieve a muted, vintage patina. The rug measures 5′ × 8′ and retains its ‘Hand Made in Turkey’ export label on the reverse.

Condition

- intentionally distressed with an ultra-low clipped pile to mimic the wear of a 1920s original; structurally sound with machine-overcast edges; color shifts and dye bleed; snags and pilling.
