Queen Anne Cherry Highboy, 18th Century

Item Details

This two-part highboy is an exceptional example of 18th-century American craftsmanship, exhibiting a transition between Queen Anne and Chippendale styles. The upper case features a molded cornice above five graduated drawers, while the lower stand contains four drawers above a rhythmically scalloped apron. Constructed of solid cherry, the piece has acquired a deep, warm patina characteristic of the wood’s age. The drawers are fitted with cast brass batwing pulls and pierced escutcheons. Forensic visual evidence, including irregular hand-cut dovetails and hand-planed backboards, confirms its period manufacture. The piece is supported by graceful cabriole legs ending in carved pad feet.
