Federal Style Mahogany Table with Hicks & Meigh Flying Bird Platter Insert

Item Details

This bespoke mahogany side table serves as a permanent mounting for an authentic early 19th-century English ironstone platter by the renowned firm Hicks & Meigh. The stand is executed in the Federal style, featuring a clean-lined mahogany frame and four square tapering legs that allow the vibrant ceramic insert to remain the focal point. The platter displays the Flying Bird pattern, characterized by a sophisticated combination of underglaze blue transfer printing and overglaze hand-painted polychrome enamels. The central motif of an exotic bird perched amongst lush botanicals is framed by an intricate cobalt blue border. This hybrid piece demonstrates a high level of craftsmanship, with the mahogany aperture precisely routed to follow the scalloped contour of the Regency-era stone china.
