American Primitive Walnut Dry Sink with Zinc Liner, Late 19th Century

Item Details

This American country pine dry sink dates to the late 19th century and serves as a classic example of utilitarian vernacular furniture. The piece features a deep upper well designed to hold a wash basin, historically lined with a hand-fitted zinc sheet that remains present and exhibits a heavy, authentic oxidation. The lower cabinet is configured with a pair of simple recessed-panel doors that open to reveal a two-tier interior storage area for linens or pantry items. The exterior has been finished in a dark reddish-brown stain, while the rear of the piece retains remnants of a vibrant teal-colored paint, providing a window into its original decorative history. This primitive cabinet displays the honest wear and structural simplicity typical of rural American household furniture from the late Victorian era.
