Louis XV Style Parquetry Bureau Plat

Item Details

This 20th-century bureau plat is a refined example of the Louis XV Revival style, commonly produced in Continental Europe for the export market. The desk features a serpentine-front apron with a single central drawer, decorated with intricate diamond-pattern parquetry in kingwood and rosewood veneers. The desk is supported by elegant cabriole legs, each accented with cast brass ormolu mounts including acanthus-leaf knee caps and foliate sabots. A protective glass top covers the parquetry surface, which is framed by delicate string inlays. The piece combines 18th-century Rococo silhouettes with the practical manufacturing techniques of the late 20th century, retaining its original decorative hardware and ornate keyhole escutcheon.
