Set of Six George II Style Mahogany Dining Chairs with Needlepoint Seats
Item Details
This set of six mahogany dining chairs features the distinctive proportions of the George II revival period, characterized by a transition from Queen Anne’s ‘line of beauty’ to more robust Georgian motifs. Each chair displays a sinuous yoke-shaped crest rail above a complex pierced splat with an interlaced scroll design. The chairs are fitted with drop-in seats featuring hand-worked needlepoint upholstery depicting varied botanical floral baskets against a neutral cream ground. Supported by straight-molded square legs and reinforced with H-form stretchers, the set retains a paper depository label for the prestigious London firm Hampton & Sons, Ltd. A visual inspection of the underside reveals hand-carved assembly marks and traditional upholstery webbing, consistent with high-quality English cabinetmaking from the early 20th century.
