L. Hitchcock Stenciled Ladderback Side Chair
Item Details
This 20th-century Hitchcock ladder-back side chair is a quintessential example of the Colonial Revival movement, produced at the historic factory in Riverton, Connecticut. Finished in a deep forest green paint, the chair features a four-slat back decorated with traditional hand-stenciled fruit and leaf motifs in a bronze-gold tone. The frame is constructed with turned stiles topped by ball finials and stands on turned legs joined by a matching frontal stretcher. The hand-woven rush seat provides a natural texture that contrasts with the painted wood. Bearing the authentic stenciled ‘Warranted’ mark, this piece combines early American design sensibilities with mid-century manufacturing techniques, serving as both a functional and decorative seating option.
