Pair of L. Hitchcock Colonial Revival Stenciled Armchairs
Item Details
This pair of Hitchcock armchairs exemplifies the 20th-century Colonial Revival period, meticulously reproducing original 19th-century Lambert Hitchcock designs. Each chair features a black painted frame decorated with traditional hand-stenciled fruit and leaf motifs on the central back medallion and top rail. The curved arms are supported by delicate turned spindles, meeting a woven natural rush seat that remains in tight, serviceable condition. Accented with gilt ring highlights on the turned legs and stretchers, these chairs bear the authentic stenciled ‘Warranted’ mark from the Riverton, Connecticut factory. Combining classic American aesthetics with modern factory durability, these pieces are highly functional examples of regional American furniture manufacturing.
