Pair of Italian Renaissance Revival "Lion and Satyr" Andirons
Item Details
A monumental pair of cast bronze andirons designed in the Italian Renaissance Revival (High Baroque) style. Each piece is surmounted by a seated lion rampant clutching a heraldic shield with a floral and diagonal band motif. The central column features a tiered arrangement of mythological figures, including a satyr (Pan) mask with curled horns at the base, flanked by two winged dragons with open maws and protruding tongues. The mid-section is adorned with two nude putti (cherubs) holding grapevines.
