Chinese Black Lacquered Altar Table with Pierced Dragon Carvings
Item Details
This black lacquered altar table is designed in the traditional Chinese style, featuring a rectangular top with distinctive upturned eversion flanges at each end. The facade is centered by a single drawer decorated with low-relief avian carvings and a decorative brass drop handle in the shape of a pagoda. Below the drawer, the apron is detailed with a pierced, openwork carving of a traditional dragon. The table is elevated on four slender cabriole legs that transition into elegant scroll feet, reinforced by low side stretchers. While the piece retains its structural integrity, the black lacquer finish shows significant signs of age and wear, including prominent flaking and crazing on the upper surfaces, providing a weathered, authentic patina favored in Chinoiserie and Regency-inspired interiors.
