Late Victorian Painted Cabinet, Late 19th to Early 20th Century
Item Details
This antique Victorian-era pine cabinet features a versatile design suitable for use as an apothecary chest or pie safe. The piece is finished in a heavily distressed cream-colored paint that highlights its utilitarian history. The upper section consists of two side-by-side drawers fitted with decorative fluted glass knobs. Below, two glazed doors with distinctive vertical mullions open to reveal a central divider and multiple pine shelves. The construction details include a traditional beadboard back, finished in an older layer of pale green paint, and four gracefully flared bracket feet. Evidencing its 19th-century origin, the assembly utilizes machine-cut nails and secondary woods showing significant natural oxidation. This piece offers a compelling ‘shabby chic’ aesthetic for modern rustic or farmhouse interiors.
