Late Victorian American Golden Oak Drop-Front Secretary Desk, Early 20th Century
Item Details
This early 20th-century American secretary desk is constructed from quartersawn ‘Golden Oak,’ exhibiting a distinct medullary ray grain pattern. The vertical form features a drop-front writing flap embellished with a central relief-carved shell and foliate motif, a design mirrored on the gallery crest above. The interior is fitted with a series of pigeonholes and a vertical letter organizer for sorting correspondence. The desk is supported by a splayed trestle base with decorative cut-outs and a single open lower shelf for book storage. The piece retains its original brass keyhole escutcheon and exhibits a well-developed honey-colored patina.
