Chinese Black Lacquer Cabinet with Hardstone Figural Inlay
Item Details
This vintage black lacquer storage cabinet features a striking Chinoiserie aesthetic, highlighted by detailed hardstone and soapstone inlays. The dual upper doors depict a classical narrative scene of courtly figures amidst a garden landscape, executed in various shades of carved stone to create a three-dimensional effect. Below the cabinet doors, two horizontal drawers are decorated with hand-painted polychrome scrolling foliate and floral borders. The piece is fitted with traditional brass hardware, including a central circular ‘moon’ latch and butterfly-style hinges. Supported by straight legs with a slightly indented apron, the cabinet’s dark ebonized finish provides a high-contrast backdrop for the vibrant stone and painted elements.
