French Empire Style Ormolu Mounted Mahogany Marble Top Sideboard, Late 20th C.
Item Details
This impressive Spanish sideboard is executed in the Empire Revival style, featuring a rich mahogany case surmounted by a thick Carrara marble top. The architectural facade is heavily ornamented with finely cast gilt-metal mounts, including caryatid busts flanking the cupboard doors and central allegorical figures enclosed in laurel wreaths. The upper section contains two drawers fitted with decorative scrolled mounts and ring pulls, while the lower cabinet doors open to reveal generous storage space with a central shelf. The side panels are veneered in a diagonal parquetry pattern, adding textural depth to the mahogany’s natural grain. Bearing the ‘Made in Spain’ stamp on its reverse, this piece reflects the enduring European tradition of Neoclassical craftsmanship and serves as a commanding focal point for a formal dining room or entryway.
