Item Details

This vintage storage trunk features a distinctive camel-back lid and is constructed from carved softwood with a vibrant polychrome finish. The exterior surfaces are decorated with high-relief carvings depicting various tropical birds, including toucans and parrots, perched amidst oversized flowers and leafy branches. The color palette utilizes bold reds, greens, yellows, and whites against a medium-brown stained ground. The trunk is heavily accented with hand-forged style iron hardware, most notably a large, circular pierced-work lock plate on the front and decorative strap hinges that wrap around the lid and base. The side panels include similar bird motifs and are fitted with iron ring-pull handles. The interior is unfinished, revealing the raw wood construction and a metal chain stay to support the lid when open. The piece stands on four simple block feet.
