Nichols & Stone Stenciled Windsor Armchair and Rocking Chair
Item Details
This selection comprises two distinct pieces of 20th-century American seating that are not a matching set. The first is a Windsor-style armchair manufactured by the Nichols & Stone Company, featuring a low-back design and a crest rail stenciled with a central book and laurel motif. The second piece is a high-back rocking chair of unknown manufacture, decorated in a similar ‘Hitchcock’ style with a fruit basket and floral stencil on a wide comb-back crest. While both items share a black and gold color palette, they exhibit significant differences in spindle count, leg turnings, and stenciling patterns, indicating separate origins. Both pieces show characteristic wear to the painted surfaces consistent with domestic use.
